Its June 1, 2010, I sit
pondering the fact that I have spent the last three months in Haiti and wonder
when, and how did my life get pointed in this direction. When
I graduated high school and everyone was planning their future, my thoughts
turned toward my future plans. I
considered nursing, teaching or even the business field. God just laughed at me! More recently, December of 2009 I was sitting
in the Elementary education office planning on finishing my teaching degree May
of 2012. God laughed at me again!
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They
are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah
29:11
I have decided that it all boils
down to a choice I made in May, 2007. I was faced with a difficult decision of
whether or not I wanted to keep my job or go on a weeklong mission trip to New
Orleans. Little did I know, that this one, seemingly small decision, would
change my life forever! I was a major crossroad in my life. At 5:30 am I got a phone call from my boss, “Are
you going to New Orleans or not? I need
to know now! If you are, don’t worry
about coming in today!” Later that day I went in to pick up my paycheck and all
the supplies that I had left. My thoughts were that God had provided for me
thus far, I didn’t see Him stopping anytime soon.
I tell you the truth, if you
have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from
here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matt 17:20
While in New Orleans, my heart’s
desire to reach God’s people shone through the adversity I faced when I
originally made the decision. After I
got home, I felt that God wanted me to go back and stay long term. I contacted the organization I was working
with to see if I could go long term. They only work short term missions, but they gave me contact information
for another organization that did. I
applied for a summer long internship and flew back in May of 2008. Towards the
end of summer we partnered with Beacon of Hope, a Christian organization. I had
the privilege of working with Drew Adams. That short contact with Beacon of
Hope and Drew Adams led me to their long term internships, things were working
God’s way this time. Drew Adams and I
exchanged phone numbers and I soon found myself corresponding with Christy
Barnard in the AIM( Adventures in Missions) office. By that time all the New Orleans spots were
already full. I sought out God’s will on if he wanted me to go back to New
Orleans, or possibly go to Kentucky. Next thing I knew I was driving myself to
Kentucky.
The
two in half weeks I spent in Kentucky taught me so many things that changed my
life forever. I never knew before that mission’s experience that I could
actually listen to God’s voice. If I chose to silence the voices of Satan, the
world, and my own desires then I could actually hear God’s still small voice. This
totally revolutionized my life!
To think it all
came down to a choice on whether I should keep my job or not.

Thanks for sharing, Angela. I am so glad to have gotten to be part of that time in Kentucky! Keep up your good work, sister!
