In 2007 I had the opportunity to
go to New Orleans and help with the rebuild. Eager to stay longer in NOLA, I
started looking for organizations housing long term volunteers. I was directed
to Adventures in Missions (AIM). While checking out their website I noticed
this thing called, “The World Race.” Doubtful that the World Race was
something for me I skimmed over it. I mean God wouldn’t call me to raise
10,000+, would He?
(A painting project I was leading with the volunteers from Beacon of Hope)

Then in 2009 I went to Kentucky on a mission trip with
Adventures in Missions. After leaving Kentucky I knew that this was an
organization that I wanted to be a HUGE part of.
In Jan of 2010, while planning my mission trip for the
summer, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti. A little over a month later, I was
on a plane to Haiti to with work AIM aiding in disaster recovery. I served in Haiti for six months. During my time there I got to hang out
with several world racers and hear their stories and I wanted to be a part
of what the racers are doing all around the wor
ld. Toward the end of April I
was accepted to the World Race, The week I was accepted I found out that my
grandpa had passed away and flew home for two weeks.
ticket back to Haiti. Assuming this was confirmation that I was supposed to go
back to Haiti I put the World Race on hold. Well due to the political unrest
going on during December and after seeking wise counsel regarding my trip, I went ahead and cancelled my
trip.
Feeling
heartbroken and torn
I asked God what his plan is for my
life. What do you want me to do? How do you really want me to
serve you? A few days later I was driving home from work and the world race was
dropped heavy on my heart. I knew this time it was straight from God, and that
He was serious! A few weeks later, I was accepted for the September 2011
