Thank You

This is Son of God Orphanage…just one of the places that gripped my heart while in Haiti.

There are 124 children that reside here.

They live in a 3 story building that I have a hard time understanding how it DIDN’T fall during the Earthquake.

The first time I saw this place, they didn’t have any food.

…didn’t have any drinking water.

…didn’t have any more bathing or cleaning water.

…didn’t have enough clothes.

Many were sleeping in the streets…the make shift shelter on the left came after a couple months…

Some had the blessing of using a bed…here’s one of those beds.

The back of the house contained an area where children could play, eat, clean and pee…I’m assuming some of the kids also sleep out there but I’m not sure. Upstairs found a cracked room for a church and a couple rooms devoted to education. It looks much like this:

SO…

With the money given by a weekly team coupled with the money given by a couple (given through a church), we bought some mattresses.

It took three vehicles to get 37 small mattresses,

9 Full Size

and one Baby Bed…

These

hugs.

We prayed a blessing over the orphanage and played quickly with them. A week earlier we had stocked them up pretty well with food and water…However, as I stood there, Pastor Max and wife came up to me brimming…He held back tears and was speechless as she started talking once again with me. In all honesty I don’t even remember everything she said because I felt like there was one thing after another that just hit me in the gut…

“We’ve been praying for YEARS for mattresses…”

“The government keeps giving us trouble and trying to shut us down because we don’t have proper places for kids to sleep…”

“I’m not going to be able to sleep for a week…”

“We need to have a feast tonight and Thank God…”

Word after word of thankfulness exuded out of them as I choked back tears. I had two little boys clinging to me. One man who helps take care of the kids came up to me in sheer delight that we had even thought to bring a baby bed for the little girl that normally has to sleep on the stone table…

Don’t let this picture fool you…Haitians just don’t know how to smile in pictures 🙂 They literally ALL put on their serious faces. Regardless, what I have to say is this:

I’ve spent the last months of my life in Haiti working alongside some amazing men and women.

AIM had entrusted me to be the Field Director at a base we’re just starting…

…in a very crucial period of what we’re trying to bring to Haiti.

Many of you supported me through prayers and financially…

even helping with loan payments while gone because I couldn’t pay them on my own…

Others of you have donated money to the “Haiti Relief” fund.

I had the blessing and honor of being one of the guys who could physically bring that blessing

straight to the people who needed it most.

You have blessed me incredibly and by being put in a position to bless others,

I have been blessed again.

THANK YOU
